Cross-country skiing at Lake Achensee
Lake Achensee is one of Tirol’s most renowned Nordic skiing centres. About 230 kilometres of groomed trails take skiers through the stunning landscape surrounding Tirol’s largest lake. With flat sections alongside the lakeshore and challenging trails in the Karwendel valleys, the region offers excellent cross-country skiing in versatile terrain. In addition, the Sports & Vitality Park is one of Tirol’s quality-approved cross-country skiing regions, a cachet that guarantees high standards. For the best experience possible, the region provides a superbly waymarked and maintained trail network with separate tracks for classic and skate skiing. Pick up our handy trail map or view our interactive map online for route details. Our website also provides the latest snow report.
The Achensee region is the cradle of professional cross-country skiing instruction. At the end of the 1970s, Gustav Leithner, founder of the ski school Pertisau, established the first official education standards for teaching cross-country skiing, which still provide the foundation for qualifying professional ski instructors today.
